Presidential Preference Primary 2024

A mandatory enrollment session will be held on Friday March 152024 between the hours of 4:30 to 6:30pm at the Voluntown Town Hall 115 Main Street for the purpose of registration and / or enrollment of electors entitled to vote in the Presidential Preference Primary.

The Presidential Preference Primary will be held on Tuesday April 2, 2024 between the hours of 6am to 8pm at the Voluntown Town Hall 115 Main Street.

Early voting hours for The Presidential Preference Primary will take place on Tuesday March 26th, Wednesday March 27th, Thursday March 28th, and Saturday March 30th between the hours of 10:00am to 6:00pm at the Voluntown Town Hall, 115 Main Street.


Zoning Regulation Comprehensive Update Public Hearing

The Voluntown Planning and Zoning Commission will conduct a public hearing on Wednesday, March 13th, 2024 at 7:00 pm at the Voluntown Town Hall for a comprehensive update of the Voluntown Zoning Regulations. A copy of the proposed zoning regulations is available in the Town Clerk’s office.

The Board of Selectmen of the Town of Voluntown, Connecticut hereby warns and gives notice that a Public Hearing will be held at the Voluntown Elementary School at 195 Main Street, Voluntown, Connecticut on  Tuesday February 13, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. to hear and discuss  (1) the proposed appropriation of $60,000.00 from the Unassigned Fund to the Fire Department Equipment Fund and (2) the proposed sale of 2 Church Street.

The Board of Selectmen of the Town of Voluntown, Connecticut hereby warns and gives notice that a Special Town Meeting of the Town will be held at the Voluntown Elementary School 195 Main Street, Voluntown, Connecticut on Tuesday February 13, 2024 immediately following the Public Hearing to act on the following items:

  1. To consider and act on the following Resolution:

(a)        BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE TOWN OF VOLUNTOWN shall appropriate $60,000.00 from the Unassigned Fund to the Voluntown Fire Department Equipment Fund.

  1. To consider and act on the following Resolution:

(a) BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE TOWN OF VOLUNTOWN shall approve the sale of 2 Church Street for the sale price of $40,000 to David and Laureen Blanchette.

Climate Pollution Reduction Grants Public Workshop

The Northeastern Connecticut Council of Government (NECCOG) in collaboration with the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission (CMRPC) is looking for feedback from the public to hear your ideas for reducing climate pollution in the Ashford, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Chaplin, Eastford, Hampton, Killingly, Plainfield, Pomfret, Putnam, Scotland, Sterling, Thompson, Union, Voluntown, Windham and Woodstock region. Please join our free public workshops to share your ideas in order to help our towns unlock match-free federal implementation dollars to reduce climate pollution in the Worcester-MA and Northeastern CT region.

Members of the public are invited to CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION VIRTUAL PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING State Project No. 0147-0062 Replacement of Bridge No. 04805 Forge Hill Road over Pachaug River Voluntown

The purpose of this meeting is to provide the community an opportunity to learn about the proposed project and allow an open discussion of any views and comments concerning the proposed improvements. A Q&A session will immediately follow the presentation.

The purpose of the project is to replace Bridge No. 04805, which carries Forge Hill Road over Pachaug River. The proposed 34’-0” long replacement structure is a prestressed concrete solid deck beam bridge that will address the poor condition of the superstructure and restore two-way traffic. The superstructure will be supported by concrete abutments with foundations designed
to resist scour. An aesthetically pleasing 3-tube open bridge rail system meeting current design standards is proposed along each fascia. The proposed 22’-0” wide roadway will be reconstructed approximately 200 feet at the south approach, approximately 350 feet along Wylie School Road/North Shore Road, and at the intersection of the three roads. A sidewalk will be added to the east side of the bridge, and there will be a westerly shift in the horizontal alignment to improve the intersection of the three roads. A temporary bridge will maintain traffic during construction, but truck traffic will be detoured through a 7.5-mile detour route around the bridge.

There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements, requiring a partial property take (1 property), and temporary easements (3 properties), drainage easements (3 properties), and permanent slope easements (3 properties). Construction is anticipated to begin Spring 2026 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of
permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $4.36 Million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.

The electors and citizens qualified to vote in the annual budget meeting of the Town of Voluntown are hereby warned that the annual town meeting will be held on Tuesday May 30, 2023 at the Voluntown Elementary School, 195 Main St, in Voluntown, Connecticut, at 7:00 pm for the following purposes. 

  1. To appropriate the funds necessary for the Board of Selectmen’s Budget for the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 in the amount of $2,470,871 (two million, four hundred seventy thousand, eight hundred seventy-one dollars).
  2. To appropriate the funds necessary for the Board of Education Budget for the fiscal year 2023-2024 in the amount of $7,055,334 (seven million, fifty-five thousand, three hundred thirty-four dollars).

Agricultural Forum Agenda 


A Gate Street Recreation Area Public Information Meeting is being held on Tuesday, March 14, at 6pm at Town Hall.

The meeting will start in the Meeting Room and will move to the outdoor recreation areas for a tour, and then back to the meeting room for discussion and public comments. The Board of Selectmen’s meeting will follow the information meeting.

The Gate Street Recreation Complex Planning Committee was established to create a Gate Street Recreation Complex plan and this public information meeting is a step in creating that plan. This plan will be the vision for the recreation amenities and facilities at Constitution Field, and the area of the current walking track , pavilion, gazebo, Sawmill Pond access, and old town garage. The Town plans to seek grant funding to complete the final plan in stages.
