Seeking Volunteers

The Town of Voluntown has many positions open that are ready for volunteers!

If you are interested in being appointed and getting involved in our community, please fill out a Volunteer Application Form and return it to the Town Clerk’s office.

Boards and Commissions

There are currently vacancies on several Town Boards and Commissions. These are all volunteer positions. Interested parties must be a resident of the Town of Voluntown, and an elector of the Town of Voluntown. Volunteers should be able to fulfill the duties of the Board or Commission which include commitment to regularly scheduled meetings, and willingness to serve on committees if applicable. Qualifications are not necessary. 

Alternates can attend every meeting, but they are only voting members if they are appointed to fill the seat of a regular member who is absent. 

NEW: The Library Board of Trustees has a vacancy to fill a term that ends on 11/21/23. The Library Board of Trustees oversees the budget and policies for the Voluntown Public Library. This board meets on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30PM at the Voluntown Public Library. The vacancy will be filled with an appointment by the Board of Selectmen, and it will be on the ballot at the next election if the person wants to continue to serve.

NEW: The Voluntown Housing Authority has a vacancy. The Voluntown Housing Authority oversees the budget for Greenwood Manor. This volunteer position is an appointed position. The Voluntown Housing Authority meets on the second Monday of each month at 6:30PM in the community room at Greenwood Manor.

The Voluntown Youth Service Bureau/ Local Prevention Council Advisory Board is seeking new members. Community members who are interested can contact the Board Secretary, Adam Burrows, at The Superintendent’s Office 860-376-9167. Interested candidates to the positions below, please submit a letter of interest with qualifications if any to the Selectmen’s Office at jzelinsky@voluntown.gov, drop it in the town hall drop box, or mail it to PO Box 96, Voluntown CT, 06384. 

Economic Development Commission–  One Full Member term that is for 2 years and ends on 11/15/23. Three Alternate vacancies to fill two year terms that end on 11/15/23. All members of the EDC are appointed, and are not elected.  The Voluntown EDC meets on the third Thursday of the month (except July & August) at 7:00pm in the Town Hall meeting room. Voluntown Sterling Transfer Station Commission– One Alternate vacancy to fill a one year term that ends on 12/31/22. All members of the Voluntown Sterling Transfer Station Commission are appointed, and are not elected. This Commission meets quarterly.  

Recreation Commission– The Recreation Commission has a vacancy. This is an appointed commission. The Recreation Commission meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 7pm.

Committees

To be a member of a Committee a person does not have to live in Voluntown. For some committees having a specific talent, job background, or knowledge is helpful, but not always necessary. The Following committees are seeking members. Committee meetings are open to the public.

Forge Hill Bridge Committee. This committee meets to oversee the Forge Hill Bridge replacement project. Meetings are as needed. Members are appointed by the Board of Selectmen. Please contact Julie at jzelinsky@voluntown.gov for more information.

Bennett Road/Bennett Circle Project Committee. This committee will be established to oversee the drainage replacement and road repairs on Bennett Rd and Bennett Circle.  Members are appointed by the Board of Selectmen. Please contact Julie at jzelinsky@voluntown.gov for more information.

Other Volunteers

Farmers’ Market- The Economic Development Commission is seeking volunteers to help with the Voluntown Farmers’ Market. Volunteers are needed to help set up and take down tents and equipment for the market which is held on Sundays in July and October, 10-1pm. Help is also needed in other areas such as planning special events, social media promoting, and more. Please contact the EDC at edc@voluntown.gov for more information.
