If you have sent in your request for an absentee ballot please be aware of the following:

1. The Secretary of States office contracted a mailing house to mail the absentee ballots for the entire state. They are just starting to mail them now. I am very sorry for the delay, but is totally out of our control.

2. I have been informed that the directions included with the absentee ballots are confusing and may not make sense. PLEASE call me if you have any questions at all and I will walk you through the process. I do not want any ones ballot rejected because they didn’t understand the directions.

3. I have been receiving requests for ballots that are taking up to 17 days to get to me because of the mail overload in Hartford. I am very concerned that your ballot may not come back in time. If at all possible please put your ballot in the drop box pictured below or hand it to me at the front door 9-4 Monday -Thursday.

Please contact Pam Theroux in the Town Clerk’s office immediately with any questions or concerns at 860-376-4089 or townclerk@voluntown.gov.

And lastly if you receive a ballot that you did not request PLEASE call the Town Clerk immediately.
Thank you all so much for your understanding and patience.

Pam Theroux
Town Clerk

The absentee ballot box has arrived at Town Hall and is secure. It is located by the side door. Those who filled out requests for absentee ballots should be receiving them from the state soon. Please call the Town Clerk’s office with any questions! 860-376-3295

Connecticut Water Customer Advisory Council

Connecticut Water is asking each CT town to appoint a resident to their Customer Advisory Council (CAC). The purpose of the CAC is to enhance communications with our customers and communities and we would like representation from each of the 59 towns that we serve. The CAC members will be looked to consult and advise on matters of local interest.

We will honor social distancing and other state and national COVID-19 guidelines and will likely hold the first meeting virtually. The exact CAC meeting schedule has not been determined, but we envision that meetings will be held about every six months. We view this as an opportunity for Connecticut Water to update CAC representatives about projects, policies and procedures that may impact water quality or service, and for us to receive feedback from the council members. This will help us improve communication, learn about the needs and priorities of customers and better coordinate in the towns we serve.

To qualify a resident must be a customer of Connecticut Water, and not be a State of Connecticut employee.

If interested, please send an email or letter to the First Selectman that includes a request to be considered by the Board for appointment, with your name, address, and contact information.

A Message from the Town Clerk: Information on Absentee Ballots for August 11, 2020 Primary

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Ned Lamont signed an executive order allowing all registered voters in Connecticut to vote absentee in the August 11, 2020 primary.

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill mailed every registered Democrat and Republican in the state an application that they will need to fill out and return if they wish to obtain an absentee ballot. That application, which will be sent via U.S. Postal Service, will include a postage paid return envelope. Beginning July 21, 2020, all voters who requested an absentee ballot will receive the ballots in the mail, which will also include a postage paid return envelope. Voluntown will also have a secure ballot drop box, located at the Town Hall, to allow voters to deliver their absentee ballots in person without close personal contact.

For those who would still like to appear in person to cast their vote, our polling locations will be at Voluntown Elementary School and are open to all registered Democrats or Republicans who want to vote in person; however, the ability to vote absentee will ensure that the democratic process continues safely and securely.

Check your voter registration status at: https://portaldir.ct.gov/sots/LookUp.aspx
