September Community Events

Save the dates! There are several community events going on in and around Voluntown in the month of September.

Voluntown Day, hosted by Voluntown Cub Scout Pack 74
Saturday, September 9, 12-4PM, Constitution Field    The Voluntown Youth Services Bureau has kindly offered to provide an inflatable obstacle course for the kids, there will be a dunk booth (dunk-ees to be announced shortly!) and food. Voluntown businesses/organizations to set up tables so people can see what they have to offer. There were over 20 businesses/organizations that did so last year. Color Run, sponsored by the Voluntown PTO
Saturday, September 9, 1PM, at the Voluntown Elementary School  A color run is an untimed event in which participants are doused from head to toe with different colors. Two different routes are available; a longer route for adults, a shorter route for kids. Cost of registration: $15 per student, $20 per adult. Everyone who registers will receive an event T-shirt. Voluntown Volunteer Fire Co.’s Annual Chicken BBQ
September 9th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM  Tickets are $10 and available at  Town Hall or the firehouse  any weekday between 6:30 am and 4:30 pm.

Remember Together 9/11 Memorial Ceremony
September 11, 7PM, 
Veteran’s Park, Jewett City   Voluntown residents are invited to attend this memorial service as we join together in remembrance of all 9/11 victims. Camaraderie and refreshments start at 6PM. Please bring lawn chairs. In event of inclement weather event will be held at Griswold High School.

Clam Fritter and Chowder Dinner, hosted by the Voluntown Baptist Church
Friday September 15th 4:00 to 7:00 PM Choice of New England or Rhode Island style chowder. Menu includes Clam Fritters, Chowder and Cole Slaw. Adults $10.00 Children $5.00 You can call the Church Office to reserve tickets!

Friends of the Voluntown Library Annual Roast Beef Dinner
Friday, September 15, between 5:00 and 7:00, at the Voluntown Fire Department on Route 165.  Adults $15; ages 6-10 $5; ages 5 and under no charge.  Takeout available.  Door prizes!

Touch A Truck, hosted by the Voluntown Farmers’ Market
Sunday, September 17, 9AM-12PM   at the Voluntown Farmers’ Market.  If you own a local business and would like your truck/vehicle to be a part of this event, please turn in the application in this link. It can be dropped of at the Voluntown Farmers’ Market or emailed to edc@voluntown.gov.

Great After School Programs (GRASP): Green Technologies, sponsored by the Voluntown Youth Service Bureau
This program is for Voluntown residents in grades 3-4. This program meets Mondays, after school to 5PM, in the VES art room on the following dates 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2. Transportation is not provided. $20 for all sessions, scholarships are available. Contact Melinda Bryan, YSB Director at mbryan@voluntownct.org for more information.

Voluntown Farmers’ Market
Every Sunday in the month of September, 9AM-12PM,
sponsored by the Voluntown Economic Development Commission  The last market day is October 8. Purchase local fruits, veggies, and artisan goods. Live music every Sunday.

Yoga, sponsored by the Voluntown Recreation Department
Every Wednesday, 6-7PM, at the Voluntown Firehouse Bring your yoga mat, no experience required- all skill levels. $5 resident and non-resident. Please arrive early if new to class.
