The Voluntown Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining town roads, snow removal, and the upkeep of town vehicles. The Public Works crew also assists in the maintaining of town property, including the school and recreation areas.

All roads in the town are maintained by The Department of Public Works with the exception of State Roads routes 49, 138, 165, which are maintained by CT DOT Occum Office at (860) 823-3204

Public Works News

August 30, 2019: Paving is expected to begin on Laurel Drive the week of September 23.

July 8, 2019: Paving should begin on Wilson Rd within the next couple of weeks. Paving on Laurel Drive will follow.

May 6, 2019: Public Works crew has started sweeping town streets. Roads that have been done so far include;  Shetucket Tpk, Wylie School Rd (East), Forge Hill Rd, Ten Rod Rd, James Rd Extension, Wilson Rd, and roads in the village area. We have been working on the Capital Projects Plan for 2020-2026 and putting together road work requests, needed projects, and equipment to present to the Board of Selectmen.

State Forest Access Road Closure on Hell Hollow Dec 17-24th

The State Forest throughway on Hell Hollow will be closed by the State Monday through Friday December 17-24 due to tree trimming. Posted on December 14, 2018
