From the Town Clerk’s Office: Absentee Ballot Information for the Presidential Election on 11/3/2020

The Presidential Election will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at the Voluntown Elementary School. If you choose not to vote in person ,and  would prefer to vote with an absentee ballot, please follow the instructions below.

The Secretary of State will be mailing all registered voters an application for an absentee ballot in early September. In order to receive an absentee ballot, you must fill out the form, check a reason for wanting the absentee ballot, and sign the form. If this is not done, I will do my best to reach you and have you come in to correct the form, but I can not issue a ballot until the request is completed correctly.

You may return the form by mail, deposit it  in either of the drop boxes at the Town Hall, or hand it directly to the Town Clerk. The Town Hall is currently closed to the public, but if you would like to return your request in person just give me a call first at 860-376-4089, and I will let you know when I am available (generally 9-4 Monday-Thursday). If you are going to return application by mail, please do so as soon as you receive the request. Several applications were not received in time to get a ballot for the Primary because they were mailed too late. This is a great strain on the postal service and the mail is taking extra time to get back and forth.

Your ballot will come directly from the Town Clerk’s Office, and not the mailing house that was used for the Primary. Ballots will be mailed out or available on October 2, 2020. You are welcome to return your application and ask for your ballot in person any time after that date. Again, The Town Hall is currently closed to the public, but if you would like to return your request in person just give me a call first at 860-376-4089, and I will let you know when I am available (generally 9-4 Monday-Thursday). Ballots may be returned in person, deposited into the ballot drop box at the side door (photo below), or by mail. If you are going to return ballots by mail, please mail them as soon as possible, so that they are received in time.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

1. You do not have to vote absentee. You are allowed to vote in person if you choose. Absentee Ballots are being offered for those that choose to use them.

2. You must fill out a new application for the Presidential Election. The application that you sent in for the primary was just for the primary. You must use the new application that shows the Presidential Election 11/3/2020.

3. The state will be sending these new applications out in early September. If you need one prior to that just contact me.

Please contact me with any other questions at all. We want to be sure that everyone has a chance to vote and that their vote gets counted.
